Meet the Filmmakers

Claire Hannah Collins

Co-Director/Director of Photography

(they/she) is a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Previously, they spent five years on staff at the Los Angeles Times. Their long term reporting focuses on issues of incarceration and mental health. Their work has been recognized by Picture of the Year, the Online News Association, A Los Angeles Emmy, the National Press Photographers Association, the Los Angeles Press Club, the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, the Horizon Interactive Awards, SxSW, the Webby Awards, and College Photographers of the Year.

Corleone Ham

Co-Director/Producer

(he/they) is a filmmaker and organizer in Southern California. He recieved his degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Irvine where he studied ethnographic approaches to cultural storytelling. He has 12 years of community organizing experience, collaborating with community stakeholders and impacted communities on issues around racial, economic, and gender justice work in Greater Los Angeles and California.


Katherin Hervey

Executive Producer

(she/her) is an artist and award-winning filmmaker who is interested in what is hiding in the dark corners of the American landscape and our collective psyches, believing truth is often found in the dark before it shines in the light. Her work as a documentary filmmaker is informed by her 15+ years in criminal justice and prison reform, where she’s worked as a filmmaker, restorative justice advocate, prison college instructor, and trial attorney for the Los Angeles Public Defender. THE PRISON WITHIN (Discovery Plus) is her award-winning first feature film.

David Harris

Co-Executive Producer

(he/him) is a seasoned producer and writer based in LA.  He’s developed shows for a number of production companies and networks including: A+E Networks, Amazon Studios, IPC, Film 45, Fremantle, B-17,  Anchor Entertainment, Main Event Media, RIVR, Discovery Studios, Dirty Robber, Pulse Films (Vice Media), The Jackal Group (Fox TV), etc.  He produced a 6-part doc series on Silicon Valley for AOL Studios/TechCrunch, and was the Supervising Producer for “Six Degrees of Everything” (truTV). A former journalist, he’s written for The Hollywood Reporter and Wired Magazine.  David is a graduate of the American Film Institute.

Erin Kenway

Co-Executive Producer/Impact Producer

(she/her) is an attorney and award-winning independant filmmaker. Her film projects are influenced by her experience as a family law attorney and her advocacy work collaborating with community organizations and strategic stakeholders on issues including trauma-informed systems, restorative justice, domestic violence, foster care, mental health, and prison reform. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Family Law Center at her law school alma mater, where she was an adjunct professor. Her film projects have received recognition by Forbes, The Guardian, Washington Post, MSNBC, Good Day LA, Deadline, SeattleMet, IndieWire, and more.

Troy Williams

Impact Producer

(he/him) served 25 years of his life in juvenile and adult prison facilities. While incarcerated, he founded a video production and the first award-winning radio/podcast within a prison called The San Quentin Prison Report. Since being paroled, Williams has worked as a Youth Program Development Specialist, Restorative Justice Facilitator, Motivational Speaker, and founded Restorative Media Inc., a non-profit social impact organization whose mission is to give voice to the wisdom of lived experience, advance intellectual ownership, and distribute narratives that inspire social transformation.


Mauricio Gonzalez-Aranda

Editor

(he/him) is a Mexican-American documentary director, cinematographer, and editor based in Brooklyn. He’s worked on various Oscar-nominated productions, including A House Made of Splinters (2022), Flee (2021), and Strong Island (2017). His recent project, Bar Talk Series, gathered over 75k followers across social media. His debut documentary A Word for Human (2019) premiered at CPH:DOX and screened at US National Gallery of Art. His second film My Great Great Uncle’s Music is in production.
